These are the comprehension questions.
1.
What is are four ways the
output (producing language) might play in a role in the process of second
language learning?
2.
State at least two evidences, Krashen
mentioned adding wring to reading based methods have not been shown positive
effect on language development.
3.
How club membership is
acquired, and how the club membership has been shown in birdsong?
Discussion Question
What do you think about that the comprehensible
output might elicit more of comprehensible input through communicating with interlocutors?
(Also I am curious about that based on comprehensible hypothesis, how is it possible that learners use the
monitor without output and feedback?)
If you have any questions or unclear points about my Qs, just email me.(goseoyoon@gmail.com)
Cheer up all! Better things are coming soon.... ^ ^;;
1) First way is ‘development of automaticity in language learner use’ which is focused on fluency rather than accuracy. A second way is forcing learner to move from semantic processing to syntactic processing. For example, many language learners speak without comprehension about concord, definite/indefinite distinctions, singular/plural distinctions etc. A third way that output provides the opportunity to test out hypothesis to try out means of expression and see if they work. Last way is feedback that can lead learners to modify or reprocess their output.
ReplyDelete2) I think there are two evidences are mentioned in chapter; One is a reserch done by LEE that the amount of free reading students reported doing was a significant predictor of writing performance, but the amount of free writing done was not.
The other is a reserch done by Mason. He mentioned there were no differences in gains in reading and vocabulary among the groups that are people write short summaries of what they read in their mother language, people write short summaries in English or people write summaries in English and have their errors corrected.
3) When integrative motivation is high and anxiety is low, the affective filter is lowered, and those late-acquired aspects of language that mark club membership and acquired.
We could learn that Birds also have club membership by acquiring birdsong and they prefer the live song of a different species to the recorded song of their own species.
My opinion about discuss question
I agree that comprehensible output hypothesis elicit more of comprehensible input through communication.
From my experiences, I also learned second language(English) through comprehensible output. one of examples is 'conjunction' that was my most weakness and was grammar I made mistakes several times. but my English teacher or English native speaker friends corrected it or let me know my mistakes, then I could make less mistakes and learn how I use properly in speaking sentences.
As I am applier this week, please think about "output hypothesis by Swain" again.
1) How does this output hypothesis help both an English teacher and students?
2) What kinds of MIC and CIs be applied in classrooms?
Can you make teacher talks with MIC?
As a highliter, there are seven words you should check for Swain’s output hypothesis.
ReplyDelete1) “PUSHED” (to do better): It makes learners to think what she said before. It helps SS to think about how she might have said better.
2) Automaticity: When learners take a responsibity for their learning, language aqusition may occur.
3) Output hypothesis: When learners produce language, either spoken or written, language aqusition may occur.
4) Producing language: It forces learners to recognize what they do not know or know only partially.
5) Noticing the gap: learners process specific input for learning and it is enhanced because their output has focussed their attention on the need to do.
6) Hypothesis testing: learners test out their hypothesis through output. They try out means of expressions and see if they work. They need to check their comprehension and get some feedbacks from teachers.
7) Negotiation of meaning: learners accomplished this through interactional moves using clarification requests and confirmation checks.
