Group B 'The output hypothesis'

Hi Mia, Daisy, Esther!
First of all, sorry for the late uploading!

Here are the comprehension questions.
Q1) What are the four ways in which output might play a role in the process of second language learning the output hypothesis proposed?
Q2) What is the second way in which producing language might serve in the language learning process?
Q3) What is the simple but powerful example of the type of teacher-fronted interaction that the output hypothesis calls for?

Discussion questions.
Which hypothesis either Swain’s or Krashen’s do you more agree, and why, if you have another different opinion from the both, then why?

  1. 1. give Ss opportunity for meaningful practice, Ss to move from semantic processing to syntactic processing, L learning process is through hypothesis testing and be a route to language learning.
    2. that is may force the learner to move from sementic processing to syntactic processing
    3. S : La chose en bass.
T : 'La chose en bas'?
    S : La salutation finale.

  2. SU : The output hypothesis proposes that through producing language, either spoken or written, language acquisition/learning may occur. There are for ways in output hypothesis. The first is that language production provides the opportunity for meaningful practice of one’s linguistic resources permitting the development of automaticity in their use. A second way in which producing language might serve in the language learning process is that it may force the learner to move from semantic processing to syntactic processing. A third way in which producing language may serve the language learning process is through hypothesis testing. The fourth way in which output may be a route to language learning : It may generate responses from speakers of the language which can provide learners with information about the comprehensibility or well-formedness of their utterances.
The comprehension hypothesis is that we acquire language and develop literacy when we understand messages, that is, when we understand what we hear and what we read, when we receive ‘comprehensible input’. There are several affective variables which are related to success in language acquisition – anxiety, self-esteem and motivation. The comprehensible hypothesizes are skill-building hypothesis and comprehensible output hypothesis.
